Do You Support The Spanking Ban?

21 01 2007

I don’t remember being spanked as a child, but I think that doesn’t mean I wasn’t spanked. With having an alcoholic father, I probably was but just blocked it out. Spanking comes in so many forms. Whether, it’s a smack on the hand or a swat on the tush.

Some people call it abuse. What do YOU call abuse?

Fast food in children’s hospitals a bad lesson

7 12 2006

A very interesting article worth reading…

CHICAGO (Reuters) – Fast food outlets are common inside U.S. children’s hospitals, leading more patients to consume hamburgers and fries and encouraging them to view the fare as healthier than it probably is, a study said on Monday.

Of 200 hospitals with pediatric residency programs surveyed, 59 had fast-food restaurants on site, said the report published in Pediatrics, the journal of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

More than half the patients or family members visiting hospitals with fast food outlets said they ate fast food the day they were surveyed, which was four times the rate among people at hospitals without outlets, the survey of 386 people found.

McDonald’s, which does provide financial support to some of the hospitals surveyed and operates several homes for ill children, was the prevalent restaurant in hospitals studied.

8 products NOT to buy for kids

They may be heavily advertised. Every other kid on the block may have them. Your children might be pleading for them, too. But we recommend that you avoid buying and using the following eight children’s products, including playthings and baby gear, because of the injuries or potential injuries associated with them.

Should extreme preemies be saved?

16 11 2006

I thought of this article a little bit disturbing. If I was the parent of a preemie, I would do everything in my power to save his/her life. Unfortunately, life is tough and sometimes cut short, but I do not agree with destroying a life even if the doctors tell me it’s the right thing to do.

LONDON – Premature babies born before 22 weeks gestation should not be given intensive care treatment to keep them alive, according to a report released in Britain on Wednesday.

What are your thoughts about this? If you, as a parent, went into early labor and the doctors said that there is a small chance of your baby surviving and that they should not let him/her survive anymore suffering, what would you do or say? I would love to hear your input!

Woman kicked off plane for breast-feeding

15 11 2006

BURLINGTON, Vt. – A woman who claims she was kicked off an airplane because she was breast-feeding her baby has filed a complaint against two airlines, her attorney said.

When is it a crime to feed your child? Bottle or breast…it doesn’t matter. A mother should be able to feed her child no matter the age or whether or not she breast or bottle feeds. Shame on Delta Airlines! If I fly in the future, I surely will not be flying Delta…I am a mother who breast-fed all her children. I am currently nursing my 7 month old daughter. If anyone ever told me that I couldn’t nurse my baby, they would be getting an earful. The will be no way that I would accept a blanket that has been tossed back and forth from passenger to passenger to cover my child. Gross….Hello….GERMS!!! Not to mention that when you put a blanket over your baby’s head to nurse, it gets pretty hot. Would you like to eat with a blanket over your head? I don’t think so.

Anyways, the link to the article is below. Feel free to comment. I would love to hear all sides. No foul language please.

Child punishment or abuse? You decide….

22 10 2006

I was searching for some parenting resources and a page from a site came up about spanking….Okay…..I read a paragraph…..stopped and almost cried…..started to read some more….stopped and got angry and almost cried again. At this poing I was horrified on what I was reading.

As I continued to read, I just got overly upset, angry, and to put it bluntly, PO’d. What is this world coming to? Why do children have to take this type of abuse? Clearly, this website is a Christian Church. Promoting “beating” their kids and they give you very defined instructions on how to beat them and what to say when you are beating them with a Bible….What the heck is this…How is beating a child like that called love? I could never do this to my child. A slap on the butt or hand is justifiable…NOT beating them with a Bible and calling them sissy…

I am a Christian and I do not go to church(I pray at home), BUT I do believe that beating your children is a big sin…..I know that this issue might bring some controversy but that is to be expected..

I could go on and on about this but I would like to hear from you. What are your views on this and thoughts about the website I speak of….Here is the link to page where they talk about the beatings…. I really want to hear what you have to say…

Consumer Reports – Eyeglasses

21 10 2006

Ok…I have to post this article. I seen this on the news last night and thought it was worth the post. I have been working in the optical industry for 10 years now. Right now, I make the erywear or the lenses that go in it….I know that even though I do not work for Lenscrafters, making a pair of glasses in less than an hour is not impossible. In fact, I can make you a pair of glasses in 35 minutes….Most people think that it really takes an hour or longer to actually make a pair of glasses….Not true! If you have a regular single vision prescription with no bifocal then the glasses can be done in about 10-15 minutes (depending on how backed up the lab is). Now a pair of glasses containing a bifocal (lined or progressive) has to be surfaced (prescription put in the lens by lens generator) usually takes about 30-45 minutes, again based on a lab that is not slammed with jobs…. I know Lenscrafters marks up their stock, just like all optical chains do, but come on…..They are a rip-off…. The article from Consumer Reports is below….

What a combo…..ADHD, Ritalin and preschool

20 10 2006

Everyone has their own beliefs and disbeliefs about if you should medicate your children just because the doctors “say so”. What about second opinions? What about other treatment options? Do children really need this drug or can they cope with the life they are use to?
I am not sure what to think. If it came to my attention that any of my children had ADHD or was suspected of it, I would definitly get a second, third, or even a forth opinion. I really would prefer not to medicate my child if there is no need for it.
Here is an article that I found and I would like to see what you have to say.

How long is too long…..

5 10 2006

Do you think that breastfeeding for a year is too long? How about over a year? I breastfed my son for over a year and he is hardly ever sick…I am now breastfeeding my daughter only for a year. This is my opinion and views about this.

Mother’s milk is healthy and very beneficial. I do not see any timeline on how long you breastfeed, but if the child is like 2 and older, that just concerns me. The child at that age knows what breasts are and I just wouldn’t feel comfortable nursing a toddler. I am all for breastfeeding….just not into the toddler years…

What do YOU think? I would love for you to share your opinions and views on this subject.

Thank you for reading and being a part of the Network….
